Hey Sapan. The answer to what is more durable vinyl or laminate is vinyl. I mean the thing is that both laminate and vinyl are quite durable. However, vinyl takes the lead in some areas, which makes it better in terms of durability. I will tell you the exact reasons why vinyl is preferred over laminate below.

What is more Durable Laminate or Vinyl?

So, vinyl is better in environments prone to moisture or heavy foot traffic. This is because vinyl is water resistant and sometimes fully waterproof in nature. Here, vinyl outshines laminate. Although laminate is also pretty durable and scratch resistant, it is a better fit for regions with less exposure to moisture.

But one thing you should see is that some laminates are now waterproof, so if you can get that, laminate can work well in moisture prone areas, too.

Flooring is a very important part of the house. During my home renovation, the expert I hired informed me that laminate or vinyl flooring is widely used. Then, I asked her what is more durable vinyl or laminate. She said both are durable but vinyl lasts long. She further informed me of the key difference between the two, which I listed below.

What is More Durable Laminate or Vinyl?

The interior expert informed me that the choice is majorly based on aspects including foot traffic, and maintenance. Moreover, the differences between the two that she mentioned are as follows:

Longevity

She said the lifespan of the Vinyl or Laminate Floor depends on the maintenance. Usually, vinyl flooring can last 10 to 30 years and laminate on the other hand is anywhere between 15 to 25 years.

Look

Vinyl and Laminate Flooring are often substituted for tiles, wood or stone. Vinyl is thinner in terms of structure and laminate is thicker. Laminate measures between 6 to 12mm and Vinyl is only 5mm. The vinyl sheets are finished with a design and laminates are finished with a resin seal.

Cleaning

For either a Vinyl or Laminate flooring, vacuuming or sweeping the floor works wonders. If the dirt does not go away then the floor should be moped gently or a specific cleaning agent can be used as advised. The floor should be wiped after it is mopped. You need to keep this in mind.

Foot Traffic

She said vinyl flooring is best for handling heavy foot traffic, as it is water resistant and can be refinished.

Ultimately, I decided to have vinyl flooring in my kitchen or living space as it is more durable in spaces which have soaring humidity levels. However, you can choose whichever flooring you want as per convenience.
