We are all aware that constructions have a significant effect on climate change, health, and general well-being. Constructions consume resources, produce waste, and are expensive to build and manage. Let me tell you about the LEED certification.

What is LEED certification?

Risks from climate change and global warming are extremely frightening. Natural resources on earth are slowly decreasing. So it is becoming more and more important to conserve what natural resources are still available. Non-profit groups like the US Green Building Council (USGBC) were founded in this way. The Green Building Council is the sole organisation that administers actual qualifications and project certifications to initiatives like LEED in the green development sector.

LEED certification full form:

One of the most well-known and widely used international green building certification programmes is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Its goal is to support construction companies in using resources and the environment wisely. The rating system is based on a points system, and it primarily focuses on new construction projects. The ranking increases as more points are earned. Silver, gold, and platinum certification levels may be acquired.

LEED certification in India:

India came in third place with more than 899 LEED-certified projects comprising more than 24.81 million gross square metres of space. In comparison to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, which each have 232 and 157 LEED-certified green buildings, Maharashtra has 334.

The majority of LEED projects in 2018 were in India, which is leading the Asia Pacific area in the green construction movement. In addition to commercial buildings, LEED projects are also prevalent in a number of other industries, including education, manufacturing, and tourism, to mention a few. In India, the green construction movement is gaining traction thanks in part to LEED-certified metros and LEED for cities.

For Example:

Campus of Wipro, Gurugram

This structure is shaped like an inverted cone, and it has a courtyard that is exposed to the sky and nature, which helps to keep the building cool in the summer. The Wipro project is the largest and second-highest platinum-rated green building in the world as well as the highest in Asia. It received LEED Platinum certification from the USGBC in 2005 with 57 points.

This is all I had to say about the LEED certification.
