Land conversion is a legal procedure followed in India when an owner wants to convert the agricultural land for purposes other than farming and agriculture.

The land conversion rules for all the states are different and all the states follow their own set of guidelines, however, the basic application process involves submitting the land conversion application form to the district collector, district commissioner, the sub-divisional officer, or tehsildar of the city. The step by step process to apply for a land conversion certificate is as follows: 1. Get in touch with the designated authority for the land conversion of your jurisdiction with a written application addressed to the officer. 2. Attach the attested copies of documents as suggested by the officer with your application. 3. The officials will verify the documents thoroughly and upon confirmation of their legibility, a conversion certificate will be issued. 4. Produce the certificate in front of the revenue officer of your zone, they will make the changes in the records. 5. You will be allowed to make the required land-use changes within a year or else the permission will be withdrawn. There are only some states that have the provision to get a conversion certificate online. The list includes Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, and Telangana.
