Each NPS subscriber is allotted a password for accessing their respective NPS accounts. This number is inherently unique. No two subscribers will have the same iPIN. The 12 digits PRAN is the user ID and the iPIN (internet personal identification number) is the password for logging into your account.
Since I have an account in one of the 17 banks empanelled with the National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL). I could apply for an NPS account online with minimal paperwork and hassle at enps.nsdl.com. You will get a pin if you enrol in either Tier 1 or Tier 2 of the NPS.
The pin is used to give access to the profile to check the total investment amount or make any changes.
When I enrolled in the NPS ( National Pension Scheme), I got an internet personal identification number sent to my email id. I reset my NPS iPIN soon after as a security measure.
