We must have seen many structural patterns and designs without actually knowing what that design is called. One such design is the facade design pattern. I had been unaware of this term and this design for my whole life until a friend of mine acquainted me with this concept. If you are one among those who do not know what is facade design pattern, I am here to help you out with all the knowledge I have on it.

The facade is a category of Structural design pattern which is a part of the Gang of Four Design Pattern. As can be understood from the name, the facade is the face of a building. When we walk on the road past a building, we only tend to see the face of the building which is called the facade. This is the glass face of the building. We are unaware of the complexities, wirings, and pipes which undergo the building to present that face to the outside world. It is the facade that hides all these complexities and displays a pretty picture.

So it can be said that a facade pattern is a pattern that hides the complexities of a system or a building and presents an interface to the clients through which the clients can access the system. It is a structural pattern that adds an interface to the existing complexities of a system to hide them and display a  happy face through a clean interface.

A facade can be designed in a way that it provides a simplified interface or an appearance to subside the complexities of a structure or a system. It not only works as a face of the building but also provides many other advantages for a system like

• Enhancing the usability and the readability of the software by masking the complex interactions between the components. In structural design terms, it masks the wirings and pipes of a building to provide a better appearance to the building.

• It provides a context-specific interface to the systems and a function-specific aspect to the buildings.

• It serves as the face of the building. This means that it is through this point that the building starts.
