For cladding, a variety of materials are used such as wood, stone, aluminium, metal, ceramic, vinyl, etc. We must know that cladding can be of two types: dry cladding and wet cladding. Dry wall cladding or mechanical cladding is a type of cladding where two types of metals are mixed together to form a fusion welding. For example, marble and granite cladding is generally used for concrete walls, block work, masonry work etc.

Now that we know what is dry cladding let us learn about the advantages and disadvantages of dry cladding.

Advantages:

  • Dry cladding is generally used for fixing steel clips, steel frames for installation purposes and for waterproofing silicone sealant.

  • Dry cladding takes less time and it is a convenient method as you don’t need to grout if you dry clad. 

  • Gry cladding helps to avoid contamination of the stone dust present in the mortar.

Disadvantages:

  • To do dry cladding the thickness of the mechanical stone panel should be at least 2.5cm. For dry cladding, a  good and reliable processing method is required.
