During the preparation of the flooring for my new flat, the professional asked me to choose between GVT and PGVT tiles. They are popular options. And when I went to purchase it, I found they appear to be very similar. But the shopkeeper said that there are differences in finish and maintenance. I have shared the GVT and PGVT tiles difference he shared with me.

What is the Difference Between PGVT and GVT Tiles?

PGVT stands for Polished Glazed Vitrified Tiles, whereas GVT stands for Glazed Vitrified Tiles. Both types of tiles are made of vitreous clay, which provides a solid and lasting substrate. But here are the differences between PGVT and GVT:

  1. PGVT Tiles require polishing after glazing. However, GVT tiles don't need to be polished.

  2. PGVT tiles are easier to maintain compared to GVT.

  3. There are usually glossy PGVT tiles available. However, GVT tiles come in a variety of finishes, including satin, rustic, matte, and sugar.

  4. PGVT Tiles are mainly for indoor applications. But GVT tiles are suitable for various spaces.

While both GVT and PGVT tiles are long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing, PGVT tiles have a more opulent, high-gloss appearance, while GVT offers a wider range of finish options. I finally got GVC tiles installed in my new home.

I liked Ashish’s detailed comparison between the two tiles, and would like to give my opinions as well. PGVT tiles are better in terms of maintenance due to its glossy finish, while GVT tiles are more natural, so it’s easy to accumulate dust, making it extremely difficult to clean. Also, look wise, I like PGVT tiles more because they’re mainly created to elevate the space with a shiny surface. GVT tiles, on the other hand, come in a lot of designs, which may give you many options than PGVT. So, that’s all I would like to share about the GVT and PGVT tiles difference. I hope this gives you some ideas.

How Many Tiles are Required to Tile a Floor?

I was planning to get my house renovated and for that I hired a renovation expert. After discussing all the aspects, he asked me whether I would like to get PGVT or GVT tiles. Since, I didn’t know what those meant, I asked him about the difference and also which is better between PGVT vs GVT tiles. The renovator told me that both of them are good. According to him, PGVT tiles have only a glossy finish, whereas GVT tiles have different types of finishes.

GVT Tiles Vs. PGVT Tiles: Which is Better?

In the same discussion, he also told me a few more details, which I had added below.

Purpose

The renovator mentioned that GVT tiles are generally used for high traffic areas such as kitchens, living rooms, etc. On the other hand, PGVT are used for aesthetics and are good for low traffic areas such as bedrooms, bathrooms etc.

Maintenance

PGVT tiles are easier to maintain as they have a glossy surface. GVT tiles gradually accumulate a lot of dirt and stain and thus they need to be cleaned on a regular basis.

Look

He also told me that PGVT tiles are the best choice if I was not worried about its slippery nature. But, if I was looking for variety, then GVT would be the right choice.

This is what the renovator had told me. After thinking it over, I decided to go with GVT tiles as I didnt want slippery tiles in my house. Hope this helps.

What are Single Charge and Double Charge Vitrified Tiles?

Hi there. I renovated our house a couple of months ago. At the time, I was wondering whether to go for PGVT vs GVT tiles. So, I compared both of them to understand the one that would work better for my house. I can share the differences between the two with you.

What is the Difference Between PGVT and GVT Tiles?

Polished Glazed Vitrified Tiles (PGVT) Glazed Vitrified Tiles (GVT)

It is only available with a glossy finish.

They are available in matte, rustic, sugar and satin finishes.

Due to their slippery nature and glossy finish, they are not suitable for high-moisture areas.

Due to their non-porous and glazed surface, these tiles work well in high-moisture areas.

You need to polish these tiles from time to time to keep their shine and look intact.

They do not need any polishing and can be simply cleaned regularly.

This is all I know about the differences between the GVT and the PGVT tiles. I recommend you choose the tile according to the usage, and the advantages these tiles have over one another.
