On July 1st, 2011, the Indian government introduced the Direct Benefits Transfer for LPG (DBTL) Scheme, also known as the Pratyaksh Hanstantrit Labh (PAHAL). I also opted for this scheme and received a subsidy every time I refilled my gas. So let me tell you what is DBTL scheme.

What is DBTL scheme of Bharat Gas?

The Pratyaksh Hanstantrit Labh (PAHAL) or Direct Benefits Transfer for LPG (DBTL) is a government programme where you receive a government subsidy payment on your LPG connection to your bank account. The scheme initially covered 291 districts across the nation when it was started, and 54 additional districts were added when it was renewed a year later. The government automatically distributes the amount of the discounted LPG to customers via their Aadhaar cards or bank accounts.

What are the purposes of the DBTL scheme?

  • To eliminate the incentive for distractions.

  • To safeguard the customer's rights to subsidies and to guarantee that they are provided.

  • To get rid of duplicate or dishonest LPG connections.

  • To increase the supply or accessibility of LPG cylinders to real customers.

  • To enable self-selection for LPG subsidies.

How does the DBTL scheme work?

  • You must sign up for the programme. You can register by directly connecting your bank account with the gas connection or by connecting your Aadhar with the gas connection id.

  • Once enrolled, you will receive one credit. This will occur when you make your first reservation.

  • You must pay the market rate every time you reserve the cylinder.

  • Your gas connection-related bank account will receive a direct deposit of the subsidy amount.

  • You will receive the subsidy for the number of subsidised cylinders for which you are qualified in a given year. After that, you would buy cylinders at market price.

This is all about what is DBTL scheme.
