We are originally from the Zamindar family and have several properties and lands in our village. However we had to shift in the city after my father got a new job and since then, we rarely get time to visit our house in the village. I had visited the place in the year 2001 last and after that, my parents used to go there and we stayed back in our current house. However this year I got the opportunity to visit the place again. I came to know about several of our properties but couldn’t even enter a property as my father said

this property is condemned, so let's move forward. I had no idea what does that mean, why can’t we enter it? What is condemned property? He explained everything to me which must be enough for you as well to know everything about the term.

Condemned property definition

A condemned property refers to that building or structure which gets seized and closed by the government for various reasons like for becoming a threat to lives, for public health, environmental issues and more. That property of ours is about 170 years old thus might fall anytime. To save lives and avoid any harm or even death, the government has declared it to be a condemned property.

The condemnation of property does not happen overnight. Continuous negligence makes a property condemned. If maintenance is not done, any property can get condemned.

How to know if a property is condemned or not?

The best way to know whether a property is condemned or not is to visit the local building safety department and ask them.

I have now fully understood why my father said

this property is condemned that day.
