When the paint applied to the surface begins to recede and leave craters and bare areas, it is known as cisising. It causes the wall to be marred by dust, grit, and broken paint skin amongst other small particles. The wall is marred by extraneous material like fragments of bristles from the paintbrush as well. 

Why does cissing in paint occur?
