Hey friend,

Accidents occur when you least expect them. As a homeowner, it becomes necessary to think about allied perils meaning and insurance coverage offered by companies. Literally, allied perils is an insurance contract that protects the insured against unforeseen contingencies or allied perils.

Fire and allied perils insurance meaning:

Most insurance companies have a standard fire and allied perils cover that safeguards the insured against the fire and allied perils mentioned in the policy. The insurance can cover the entire building, (including the plinth and foundation), plant and machinery, stocks, various furniture, movable and immovable fixtures and fittings and other contents.

A few examples of fire and allied perils are accidental fire, lightning, explosion/implosion, tempests and floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruption, bursting or overflowing of water tanks, apparatus or pipes, malicious damage, theft/burglary, accidental damage to plate glass fixed to the buildings, destruction or damage caused by aerial devices, man-made perils in the form of riots, strikes etc, natural calamities like storms etc. Usually, the contract will provide insurance against damage from the items mentioned.

Most insurance companies have their own exhaustive list of add-on covers and deductions. I will share a list of add-on covers that can be opted for:

  • Architects, Surveyors and Consulting Engineers fees (in excess of 3% of the claim amount)

  • Debris Removal (in excess of 1% of the claim amount)

  • Deterioration of Stock in Cold Storage

  • Forest Fire

  • Impact Damage by insured's own vehicles etc.

  • Spontaneous combustion

  • Omission to insure Additions, Alterations or Extensions

  • Earthquake (Fire and Shock)

  • Spoilage Material Damage Cover

  • Leakage and Contamination Cover

  • Loss of Rent

  • Additional expenses on rent for Alternative Accommodation

  • Start-Up Expenses

  • Terrorism Cover

I hope my explanation on allied perils meaning has solved your doubts.
