AIN stands for Account Information Number. It is a 7-digit number which serves as an identification number. It is allotted by the Directorate of Income Tax (Systems) to every Accounts Office or AO. It is necessary for every Account Office to have AIN number to fill the Form 24G with the jurisdictional TDS office.
And it is compulsory for the Pay and Accounts Office (PAO)/Cheque Drawing and Disbursing Office (CDDO)/District Treasury Office (DTO) to fill the Form 24G to file TDS statements on a monthly basis. This has been necessitated by an Income-tax Department Notification.

Steps for registration of AIN income tax
Visit the
TIN websitewhere you can register for AIN allotment.
Upon visiting the website, you will find the Online AIN Registration link on the homepage. Click on this link.
You will find the Online Account Office Identification Number (AIN) Registration Form. Fill in the details in the form.
The following details are required to fill the form
Assessing officer details like the TAN, AIN Number, Category of the Assessing Officer, Name of Ministry, Name of Account Office, etc.
Assessing Officer’s contact details like the Name of the building, Flat Number, Locality Name, Post Office/Street Name, Town/District, State, etc.
Name and designation of the person responsible, Provisional Receipt Number, Provisional Receipt Date, Details of the Form 24G, and TDS/TCS remitted to the government.
Details of AIN account like the User ID, password etc.
Now you will just have to submit the form after filling in all the details.
After successfully registering, you will get a 12-digit alphanumeric AIN number. You can print this slip for your records.
