We have used AAC blocks in several of our properties. AAC concrete blocks are simple to handle and could be shaped and holed using common carpentry instruments like band saws and speed drills. You must examine the concrete for strength properties, humidity levels, relative density, and shrinking because of its lightweight and low density. Let me explain what is AAC blocks.

If you are in need of a home loan to construct your dream home, NoBroker is always there to help you.

AAC block meaning:

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks are lightweight and long-lasting construction materials. AAC blocks were discovered and designed by Swedish architect and inventor Johan Axel Eriksson in 1924. They are noted for their fire, heat, and sound resistance. Because air is the primary ingredient (almost 80-85 percent by volume), these building materials are often light, carrying only a third of the weight of traditional red mud bricks.

Advantages of AAC block:

1) It's a prefabricated, lightweight solid building construction material that's ideal for concrete blocks.

2) It is a fully sustainable building material that is eco-friendly in nature and does not pollute the environment.

3) It has high strength and stiffness of 5N/mm2 and is load-bearing in nature.

4) It's also fire-resistant insulating building material, with 4-hour fire resistance.

5) AAC blocks provide better sound insulation by blocking out loud noises and insulating well.

6) AAC Blocks are lightweight and strong, and they can survive earthquakes.

Disadvantages of AAC block:

1) AAC Block is a non-load bearing material that is solely suitable for usage as a wall barrier.

2) AAC blocks are weak, which means they are readily broken. It is fragile in nature due to the presence of gaps.

3) They have a high water absorption rate. As a result, as they absorb water and then lose it, they expand and contract, causing fissures in the structure.

4) In high-humidity conditions, interior finishes must have a low vapour permeability whereas external finishes must have a high permeability.

Is AAC block better than bricks?

Yes, AAC blocks have some advantages over brick when compared to brick. It is an eco-friendly certified green building material that is lightweight, has better durability, uniform shape and size, is easy to install, and reduces construction costs. Whereas the brick manufacturing process is not eco-friendly and releases harmful gases into the environment, resulting in pollution.

You are now aware of what is AAC blocks.
