Almost a year ago, my sister built a house in Chennai. During the installation work, she had a doubt about the toilet seat size, so she called me and asked what is a standard toilet seat size. As I am a civil engineering professor, I had an idea about it. I said usually it is 15 to 17 inches and also provided other relevant details about the toilet to her.

What are Standard Toilet Seat Sizes?

If you are also planning to install a new toilet, it is very important to understand the sizes and dimensions. I informed my sister, usually people buy the standard size toilet, which starts at 15 inches. There are three types of seat heights, like.

  1. Standard: Commonly people use 15 to 17 inches. It usually measures about 28 to 30 inches deep, 20 inches wide, and 27 to 32 inches high.

  2. Chair: Chair toilets are usually 17 to 19 inches high from the ground. It provides extra comfort.

  3. Tall: Tall toilets usually have a height of over 19 inches.

She finally installed a 15 inch toilet seat. Now that you get an idea of what is a standard size toilet seat, you hire a professional plumber to install it.

How to Measure Toilet Seat Sizes for Replacement?

0 2024-05-28T08:51:52+00:00

I stay in a 3 BHK house. There are 2 bathrooms in my house. Last year during bathroom renovation, I had installed an Indian toilet in one and a western style commode on the other one. For the Indian toilet, I installed a Hindware Orissa Squatting Pan, and the standard Indian toilet seat size was 53 x 41 x 28.5 cm.

What is the Standard Size of Western Toilet Seat?

The standard toilet seat size can vary slightly, but typically, most seats fall within a specific range. While choosing a western toilet for one of my bathrooms, I realised that the standard size of a western commode is between 14 and 15 inches from the floor to the top of the seat. Most people find this height to be comfortable.

From my experience, I can say that when choosing a toilet seat, it's crucial to measure your toilet bowl accurately. Measure from the centre of the bolt holes to the front edge of the bowl. This ensures you select the correct seat size, providing optimal fit and comfort.

I hope this helps!

What is the Ideal Bathroom Size in India?

0 2023-09-25T12:38:53+00:00

Every little thing counts in designing a relaxing and useful bathroom. Toilet seat dimensions is one such element that is frequently ignored. I've spent years making sure my home is a haven of comfort, so I've learned to appreciate the significance of this ostensibly insignificant aspect. To assist you in making an informed decision, let's examine the world of toilet seat dimensions.

Toilet Seat Standard Size

  • Length: Standard toilet seats are between 16 and 18 inches in length. This distance is measured from the seat's front to the back's hinges. To provide enough seats, its dimensions must be taken into account.

  • Width: Toilet seats normally measure between 14 and 15 inches wide. The seat is at its broadest position at this dimension, ensuring you have enough area to sit comfortably.

  • Hinge Spread: The distance between the mounting bolts at the back of the seat is known as the hinge spread. In order to achieve a correct fit with your toilet bowl, it is essential to calculate this distance. The typical hinge spans measure between 5.5 and 6.5 inches.

  • Shape: Toilet seats often come in either a circular or an elongated design. While the elongated standard size of Indian toilet seat is roughly 18.5 inches long, round seats are approximately 16.5 inches long. The appropriate shape selection is crucial for a relaxing seating experience.

What is the standard size of a toilet seat?

From what I know, there are a few general toilet standards. And I think you must be aware of this before we discuss the two basic standard sizes of toilet seats. Initially, irrespective of the design of the toilet, the space between the two bolts that secure the toilet seat to the bowl is essentially universal. These are known as seat post holes. The distance between the centres of each hole must be around 5.6 inches. Secondly, irrespective of design, the width of the toilet bowl is often similar. If there is a difference in width, it generally only corresponds to a small amount of an inch. So now you know what is a standard toilet seat size.

What is the standard size of the types of toilet seats?

1) Round Toilet Seat

The dimensions of round toilet seats are roughly 17 inches long and 15 inches wide.

In residences and homes, spherical toilet seats seem to be more frequent. They are also utilised more frequently in compact bathrooms. Because they occupy less space than their extended counterparts, Additionally, round toilet seats are typically less expensive. It is because of the fact that they are a few inches shorter than elongated seats.

2) Elongated Toilet Seat

Toilet seats that are elongated are roughly 19 inches long and 15 inches wide. Elongated toilet seats are prioritised by plenty of people, particularly men. It is due to their extended size. This chair is the norm at the majority of big establishments including hotels, petrol stations, and airports. It is because of their widespread use. They can be found in homes and flats, though they are more typical in major corporations.

You are now aware of the standard toilet seat size.
