A row house is a single-family dwelling unit that is situated in a row with at least three other dwelling units connected by a shared wall and has only front, back, and interior open areas. The first and last of these houses are usually larger than the ones in the centre.

Row houses were also known as townhouses or city dwellings of nobility or affluent families in Europe and North America prior to the industrial revolution.
