So before you ask what is a quoin meaning, let me tell you that it is an external cornerstone that is found at the corners of brick or stone buildings. It is usually used for decorative purposes.

Quoin is nothing but an architectural term used for the cornerstone. It is used to form the edge of a structure. A quoin provides structural support or as a load-bearing feature that provides strength and weather protection. To add an aesthetic look or detail to the building as well quoin is used.
What are the different types of quoins?There are 4 types of
quoins I know of and they are-
Return Quoin:This is the most common type of quoin that is built into a wall corner with one long side over one short side.
Reveal Quoin:This type of quoin is built into the wall as a standard block. These are usually used for door or window reveals and are made to fit with the brick sizes.
Chamfered Quoin:This type of quoin has a chamfer on the top and bottom of it. These are mainly used for providing aesthetic looks
Cladding Quoin:A cladding quoin is fixed to the fall after a corner gets finished. Such quoins have only visual purposes to serve and are bonded to the structural surface.
