In a house, we all have a second bathroom for guests. This bathroom is a little smaller than the normal restroom and it also doesn't have a shower. This type of bathroom in the house is called a powder room. Since I have explained powder room meaning, I will explain why a bathroom is called a powder room.

The word ‘powder room’ became popular during the 1920s. Women using the bathroom for bodily functions was considered improper so to fit in the society a woman had to say the term powder room instead of bathroom or restroom. The powder room was used to fix makeup.

Later, the term powder room became popular for the restroom which did not have a bathtub in them.

Now you may confuse a half bath with a powder room. But I must tell you that both terms signify totally different things. A half bath is a bathroom with two primary components that is a bathtub and a toilet. I hope you understand what is a powder room.

I would like to conclude by saying that powder room is a term which is more popular in England rather than in India. The term came into vogue due to the British invasion. And after a certain period, this word is used as a normal guest restroom.

I hope you find my answer on powder room meaning interesting.
