Being an interior designer, I have often come across this question: What is the ideal kitchen pantry unit size in feet? So as per my opinion, when designing a kitchen, the size of the pantry is crucial to keep the area functional and well-organised. The size of your house, how often you cook, and how much storage you require will all determine the ideal pantry size.

What is a Good Size for a Pantry?

1. Small pantry (1 to 2 m²/10 to 20 sq ft): Ideal for apartments or small kitchens.

2. Medium pantry (3 to 5 m²/30 to 55 sq ft): For the majority of average-sized households, a medium pantry is ideal.

3. Large pantry (6 to 10 m²/65 to 110 sq ft): Ideal for large families or people who store and cook a lot.

4. Cabinet-style pantry: Suitable for cramped areas that are as small as 0.5 m² (5 sq ft).

5. Walk-in pantry: For ease access and mobility, a walk-in pantry needs additional space.

Ultimately, a well sized pantry balances convenience, accessibility, and available kitchen space.

Hello Shabnam. The kitchen pantry unit size in feet is 5x5 feet for a small one and goes beyond 10x10 feet for a large one. If I talk about the shelving in walk-in pantries, they range from 12 to 16 inches deep. You should also focus on having a minimum walkaway width of 36 inches to move around with enough space. This was for a walk-in pantry, but there are other kinds of pantries, too. Let me share.

What is the Size of Kitchen Pantry?

1. Buttler's Pantry: Ranges between 4 to 6 feet wide with a length ranging from 6 to 10 feet. Shelves and cabinetry also range from 12 to 18 inches in general.

2. Freestyle Pantry: The size ranges from 18 inches to 36 inches wide. The depth ranges from 12 to 24 inches and the height can also vary, from 30 inches to 84 inches.

3. Wall Pantry: The pantry can be 12 to 36 inches wide, with a depth of 12 to 18 inches and a lot of times extends from floor to ceiling, from 84 to 96 inches.

Consider the space needed for shelves, cabinets, drawers, and other storage units within the pantry. Customizable shelving and storage solutions can help optimise the available space and increase functionality.

Do not always go by the ideal pantry size. You should decide whether you want a walk-in pantry, which allows you to physically enter and move around the space, or a reach-in pantry, which is typically a smaller closet-like space with shelves accessible from the outside. Walk-in pantries provide more storage and convenience, but they require more floor space, so the ideal size will vary in such a case.

Ensure that the pantry is easily accessible from the main kitchen area. Focus on some more factors, such as the proximity to the cooking and food preparation areas, to facilitate an efficient workflow. The average size of a pantry might not meet your requirements, so feel free to customise it.
