The certificate typically mentions details such as the owner’s name, property address, type of occupancy, inspection report, validity period, conditions, and signature of the fire officer. Its validity varies by state and building type (often 1 to 5 years).
The local fire department inspects the premises, checking fire exits, alarms, sprinklers, hydrants, evacuation routes, fire‐resistant materials, water storage, accessibility for firefighting vehicles, among others.
If deficiencies are found, the applicant must address them, after which a final inspection leads to certificate issuance.
