You must have heard that the Federal Reserve, the central bank of the United States, is attempting to reduce inflation. The Federal Reserve, usually referred to as the Fed, raises rates to achieve this. This is done to promote saving and lower demand for goods and services, which lowers supply. You must be wondering what is a Fed rate hike. Don’t worry, I will clear your doubt with this answer.

What is the Fed rate hike?

The federal fund's standard rate was increased by the Fed by 25 basis points in March 2022, bringing it to a level of 0.25% to 0.50%. For the first time since 2018, the Fed raised rates as a result of the rate hike. The Federal Reserve once again said that it would increase the fed funds target range to between 0.75% and 1% in early May 2022. The Federal Reserve also revealed that it would be cutting back on its assets of Treasury and loan-backed assets. It is with the aim to minimise the number of its accounting records.

The Fed increased the rate by an extra 75 basis points, or 0.75%, in June 2022 in an effort to stop inflation from continuing to rise. The target rate was raised by this amount, which made the range between 1.5% and 1.75%, and it was the biggest rate rise since 1994. After data from the Consumer Price Index revealed annual inflation of 9.1%, the Fed increased interest rates by an additional 0.75% in July. it brings their goal range of interest rates from 2.25% to 2.5%. It is hoped that this will reduce inflation, but it is also expected to result in higher interest rates for you as borrowers.

How does Fed rate hike impact Indian Rupee?

Foreign investors may find Indian markets less appealing in the future. The Indian rupee has already weakened as a result of a growing trade imbalance, and an increase in import demand that has exceeded export earnings. This will decrease the value of the Indian financial market to international investors. The Indian rupee will be under much more stress as a result.

This is all from my end about what is a Fed rate hike.
