A brownfield is a piece of land which was previously developed but it has now been compromised with some hazardous material. Basically that land which now has environmental issues. This term is used in urban planning as well. So a brownfield project is on a piece of land where development work was already carried out. The good thing is that these can be rebuilt, modified or upgraded under some circumstances. I hope now you know what is brownfield project.

What is a brownfield site? Why is it preferred?

We have already figured out the brownfield area definition by now, let us straight up jump to why a brownfield site is preferred.

The governments prefer to not waste a brownfield site and look for ways to utilize to the best of capabilities without furthering the damage or hazard. In such cases, the land is usually leased out to or sold to the developers and builders who invest money to clear up the waste. They send on obtaining permissions for redevelopment. These builders and developers also have to consult the experts and technicians to ensure that they can remove the contamination to the best of their ability and lessen the environmental hazard.
