Kotak credit card rent payment charges are applied when you use your Kotak credit card to pay house rent. The bank treats rent payments as special transactions under Merchant Category Code (MCC) 6513.

How Much is the Kotak Credit Card Rent Payment Charges?

  1. Kotak charges 2% of the total rent amount plus GST on every rent payment made through a credit card. For example, if you pay Rs. 20,000 as rent, the bank will charge 2% of Rs. 20,000, which is Rs. 400. On this Rs. 400, GST will also apply as per the current tax rate set by the government. So, you will pay the rent plus the service fee and GST.

  2. However, some customers may not have to pay this fee. Kotak offers fee waivers to customers who are part of certain special programs. These programs include Privy League Black, Privy League Platinum, Privy League Neon, Private Banking, and Corporate Salary programs. If you meet the eligibility rules of these programs and hold an eligible credit card, the bank may waive the rent payment fee.

  3. If you do not meet the program conditions or if your program status changes to a lower category, the bank will not give you the fee waiver. In that case, you must pay the 2% fee plus GST.

  4. Also, GST and other taxes apply to all interest, fees, and charges as per the Finance Act of that year.

So, Kotak credit card rent payment charges are 2% of the transaction amount plus GST, unless you qualify for a program-based fee waiver. I hope this helps!

I live in a rental home in Bangalore with my family and usually pay the rent using my Kotak credit card. One of the main benefits of using a credit card is earning reward points; the more you spend, the more points you get. These points can be redeemed for offers or even as a credit on your statement. However, Kotak credit card rent payment charges are 2% of the transaction amount plus GST for all payments.

What are the Benefits of Paying Rent with a Credit Card?

  1. You can save on annual fees if you cross certain spending limits, and paying your rent helps you qualify for these waivers.

  2. By clearing your credit card bills on time, you build a good CIBIL score, as rent is usually a big amount.

  3. With auto-debit, your rent is paid automatically, providing extra convenience and allowing you 45 to 60 days to manage your finances.

Hope this helps you understand the payment charges and benefits of paying rent with a credit card.

My father, who works at Kotak Bank, suggested that I use the Kotak Credit Card to pay my rent. He also informed me that there will be a small charge levied on it. The Kotak credit card rent payment charges start at 0.39% + GST. It can go up to 2% depending on several factors, which I mentioned below for your convenience.

How much does a Kotak Credit Card Charge for Rent Payment?

The fees for paying rent with a Kotak credit card range from 0.39% + GST to 2% + GST, depending on the platform used.

  • One of the earliest fintech companies to offer a rent payment tool was RedGirraffe. They charge 0.39% plus GST for rent.

  • For all transactions completed on MCC 6513, 1% of the transaction amount plus GST is charged (not applicable on White Reserve and Kotak Solitaire Credit Cards).

  • The CRED app charges around 1.5% on rent payments with a Kotak credit card.

  • For the White Credit Card and the 811 #DreamDifferent Credit Card, 2% of the transaction amount plus GST will be charged.

After utilizing Cred to pay my rent with my Kotak credit card, I eventually used the NoBroker app. It’s very simple, and you can get multiple cashbacks on it.
