I have been living in a housing society in Chennai for the past year, so I am quite familiar with the housing society nomination rules. As per the rules, a nomination form must be filled out and submitted by the original or associate member. This form mentions the person to whom the flat ownership should go in case of the member’s death. I will explain all the rules in detail for your reference.
What are the Society Nomination Rules and Regulations?
As I mentioned earlier, the nomination application has to be submitted in the society’s prescribed form by the original or associate member. This form should mention the person who will get the flat ownership if the member passes away.
As per the society's bylaws, once the Secretary gives an acknowledgment, it is treated as acceptance of the nomination.
The first time you submit a nomination, there is no charge. But if you want to change or update it later, a fee of Rs. 100 is applied.
Once the form is submitted, it is placed before the managing committee. The Secretary checks everything for any errors or missing details. If all is okay, the nomination is discussed and approved in the meeting.
After approval, the details are entered in the Nomination Register, along with a serial number, official stamp, and signature. This is done within 7 days of the meeting.
A copy of the approved nomination is then given to the member for their records. The entire process should be completed within 2 months.
Hope this helps you.
