There are different kinds of cabinet hinges, including concealed (European), overlay, butt, inset hinges, and so on. I came to know this from the interior designer I hired for my new flat. He said that when designing kitchen cabinets, hinges play an important role in both operation and appearance. They control how effortlessly your cabinet doors open and how neatly they align. I have shared all the types he shared with me.

7 Different Types Cabinet Hinges

  1. Butt Hinges:

These hinges are strong and traditional. For heavier cabinet doors, they are used. They provide a more classical appearance, even though they are visible when the door is closed.

  2. Concealed (European) Hinges:

The concealed hinge is, without a doubt, the most often used in modern cabinetry. Entirely hidden when the door is closed. These hinges have a simple, minimalist appearance and are adjustable. Ideal for modern cabinets and modular kitchens.

  3. Overlay Hinges:

Depending on how much of the cabinet frame the door covers, there are two types: full overlay and half overlay. Excellent for creating a smooth appearance and frameless cabinets.

  4. Inset Hinges:

They are more uncommon than concealed hinges, but they remain popular in high-end cabinetry. It is suitable for traditional kitchens, vintage styles, and custom cabinetry.

  5. Pivot Hinges:

High-end modern kitchens and custom cabinet designs feature these hinges, which enable doors to swing in both directions.

  6. Auto Close Hinges:

One of the most innovative options is auto-close hinges, which automatically pull the cabinet door shut when it reaches a certain angle. They are best utilised in offices, utility rooms, and garages.

  7. Soft-Close Hinges:

It has a mechanism that prevents the cabinet door from slamming by softly closing it. These are particularly useful in places that get a lot of traffic, such as toilets and kitchens.

I finally got concealed hinges installed in the kitchen. I hope you understand the different types of cabinet door hinges.
