What are the Axis Bank Rent Payment Charges?
Axis Bank charges 1% of the transaction amount as a rent payment fee. In addition, the bank adds 18% GST on this 1% fee. The bank also puts a maximum limit (cap) of Rs. 1,500 per transaction on the 1% fee. This means the base fee will not go above Rs. 1,500, even if your rent amount is very high. However, GST will still apply to the capped amount.
For example, if you pay Rs. 20,000 as rent using your credit card, the bank charges 1% of Rs. 20,000, which is Rs. 200. Then it adds 18% GST on Rs. 200, which is Rs. 36. So, the total extra charge becomes Rs. 236.
If you pay Rs. 2,00,000 as rent, 1% equals Rs. 2,000. Since the fee is capped at Rs. 1,500, the bank charges Rs. 1,500 instead of Rs. 2,000. It then adds 18% GST (Rs. 270). So, the total charge becomes Rs. 1,770.
Axis Bank does not give cashback on rent payments under this category. If you want to avoid this charge, you should pay rent through other methods like bank transfer or UPI instead of a credit card.

Let’s understand this with an example. A surcharge fee of 1% of the transaction amount, or INR 200 plus taxes, will be applied if you use your Axis Bank credit card to pay INR 20,000 on a third-party rent payment platform.
If you use your Axis Bank credit card to pay INR 200,000 on a third-party rent payment app, the rent surcharge fee will be limited to INR 1,500 plus taxes.
