Open Office Layout Advantages and Disadvantages
The advantages and disadvantages are as follows:
Advantages
In an open office layout, it is much easier to foster employee relations. You can interact better with one another. Breaking down physical walls helps a lot, especially whn you need a collaborative work environment.
Another good thing about having an open layout is the health benefit it offers. With such a space, employees tend to be happier, as interaction boosts good mood and you don’t feel stuck inside a tiny space. They move around more and get different spaces to work in.
Disadvantages
Although there are health benefits, but there is also increased risk of transmission of illness. With the walls down, there are no physical diviers to restrict social interaction, in case someone is sick.
Open workplaces do offer a more cohesive environment to work in. But, it can come at the expense of issues with chain of command. Leadership can take a hit, depending on the layout, so it important to factor that in while designing and open layout.
