I have a floating floor installed in my house. The only benefit about a floating floor is the benefit of installing the same, as it is considerably simpler than other floor types like tile or hardwood because it doesn't require adhesive or nails. However, after using them for a few years, I have discovered that more than the advantages there are several disadvantages of floating floors, especially when compared to solid hardwood or tile flooring.
What are the Negatives of Floating Floors?
Shorter lifespan: Despite their durability, they usually don't endure as long as tiles or hardwood.
Moisture sensitivity: If exposed to high humidity, vinyl, hybrid, or engineered timber floating floors may distort or buckle.
Problems with installation: When planks are installed incorrectly, they can expand and contract, causing them to "peak."
Expensive repairs: Repairing damage caused by damp or overheating can be costly.
Not ideal for resale: Floating floors are sometimes seen as a lower end option in real estate markets.
However, regular maintenance, a suitable moisture barrier, and expert installation can help prevent many of these problems.
