Three weeks ago, I visited a society to check the property rates and see the area. When I asked about the price, I learned that there are several hidden costs. The salesman explained that there are seven hidden costs of buying a house in India, such as stamp duty, parking charges, interior costs, and so on. Only after including these do you actually get the flat. I have listed all the charges below for your reference.

What are the Hidden Charges When Buying a House in India?

  1. You have to pay stamp duty and registration fees to get the house legally in your name, which can be quite high.

  2. Builders also ask for a maintenance deposit for the first few years to cover common amenities.

  3. Then there is the broker’s fee, parking charges, and interior charges.

  4. You need to get painting, furniture, plumbing, and appliances installed, which are all essential interior work. It will charge you high.

  5. GST is added on under-construction properties, and some flats in better locations have a Preferential Locality Charge.

  6. Other small charges, like legal fees, Khata assessment, and home loan processing, can also add up.

Overall, the salesman made me realise that these hidden costs are a big part of buying a house, and it’s important to keep them in mind while planning. Hope this helps you.
