Lighting is an important consideration when organising your workstation in order to improve focus and lessen eye strain. When I organised my workspace, I too had this thought: should light be in front or behind computer? After a few research, I finally positioned desk lamps or ceiling lights at a 45 degree angle to my screen. This maintains good visibility and comfort.

Should the Light Be in Front or Behind the Monitor?

  1. A light placed directly behind you will create glare on your monitor, making it more difficult to view.

  2. Avoid keeping light directly in front of you because it might be uncomfortable to have bright light glaring in your eyes.

  3. Light at an angle. Set ceiling lights or desk lamps at a 45-degree angle to your screen.

  4. Use task lighting. For uniform illumination, place a soft light above or slightly below your monitor.

This setup ensures balanced lighting without reflections or strain.
