During COVID my house needed a fresh coat of paint. However, due to the restrictions, I was a bit skeptical about hiring professional painters. Yes! You can paint your house yourself but as I mentioned earlier you will need painting skills to take up this project. When I decided whether to hire painters or do the work myself, I also considered cost and time.
How Can I Paint My House Myself?
With lots of courage and research, I decided to take up the painting project. Here are the steps that I took;
I started by covering floors and furniture with drop cloths and using painter's tape for precise lines.
Followed by filling, sanding, scraping, and fixing every hole, crack, and defect in the surface.
Now I applied a primer to create a smooth, paint-ready surface.
Once the primer layer dried, I started painting using a paintbrush at the rim. I let the excess paint drip off after dipping the tip of my paintbrush about 2" into the paint.
Using smooth, linear strokes, I worked my way down until the painter's tape's outer perimeter was complete.
Now I applied paint all over the wall with a wide roller. Paint can be applied from the ceiling down using a roller. In a 3-by-3-foot "W," rolled the paint onto the wall.
Filled in any bare spots along the way as I made my way back across that "W" without raising the roller until the wall was completely covered.
I then gave the coat two to four hours to dry. Applied another coat in the same way to get a deeper shade.
