Instead of looking for a cheap place in the major areas, I think you should rent a place or find a PG in the outskirts of the city like Thane, Kalyan, Panvel and so on. As the connectivity is great in Mumbai, you shouldn’t worry about commuting. The reason being:
a. You will find a better, bigger and cleaner place.
b. The rent would be quite low.
c. The locality would be better and the people living in the surrounding would be decent.

I would suggest you look for a PG in areas like Navi Mumbai, Thane, Airoli or Vasai. You can find a place to stay immediately and the rent would also be below 5K per month. The deposit is also low in PGs so you won’t face much problem. Usually, the deposit is one month rent but if you get lucky, you can find a PG which has a lower deposit amount.
