The main reason why people prefer to build a square or a rectangular house is that it is the most conservative and effective approach to construct a house. Odd shape construction is difficult and confusing and also costs more. In addition, the fitting in furniture and other inside things usually fit in properly in rectangular or square shaped houses.
Usually builders have prefabricated, modular building materials in accordance to the rectangular or square shaped construction. These materials are available easily and they can quickly complete the construction. Also the laborers are well-trained and experienced to build such types of constructions.
Some experts say that, at times, builders generally choose to construct at an 90° angle. This is because it is easier to reconcile intersections at 90° and there is usually less waste from unused materials. Which means less cutting and ripping; less measuring and calculating. Basically less working and smarter work.
Another aspect I think is that due to geometry it is to some extent earthquake resistant (not 100%, but compared to other shaped houses).
