That is why sound pollution limitation is so important. Keeping this in mind, the Noise Pollution (Regulation & Control) Rules, 2000 were regulated to curb these noise generating sources to maintain the normal sound level and reduce noise pollution in the environment.

Rules for noise level standards for residential area

1. No one is allowed to play a loudspeaker, sound producing instrument, loud musical instrument, sound amplifier or a public address system at night unless you are playing any of these in a closed premise like a community hall, conference room, auditorium or banquet hall.

3. If you own a sound system you are not allowed to exceed the noise level above 5 dB (A) the noise standards for the area it is to be used in.

4. You are not allowed to burst crackers that emit loud noise at night or in the silence zones.

5. You should also not use loud noise-emitting construction equipment at night or in silence zones.

What is the permissible noise level in residential area in India?

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has established acceptable noise levels in India for various locations. The allowable noise level in different zones during the day and at night has been selected by noise pollution regulations. According to the Committee on Noise Pollution Control, the noise pollution decibel limit permitted in residential areas is 45 dB at night and 55 dB during the day.

• Daytime is defined as 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

• Nighttime is defined as 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

What are the fines for breaking the law?

1) There is a law if you break the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000's noise pollution regulations. The (CPCB) has suggested a new set of fines ranging from Rs.1,000 to Rs.1 lakh.

2) Continuously loud infrastructure projects, loudspeakers at events and rallies, and screaming at odd hours are all examples of noise pollution and legal infractions. As a result, people who break the rules risk having their pockets burned.

3) A violation of the rules for the use of loudspeakers or sound systems might result in some consequences. Your material will get seized and a fine of Rs.10,000 under the proposed format of penalties.

4) Additionally, based on the scale of the unit, diesel generator sets that violate noise pollution regulations may be sealed and fined between Rs.10,000 and Rs.100,000.

5) Construction equipment that emits sound may be fined Rs.50,000 for violations and may also be impounded or sealed.

6) The National Ambient Noise Monitoring Network was developed in 2011. It consists of 70 noise monitoring stations spread throughout seven cities. It includes Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Mumbai.
