To answer your query, in my knowledge, the daughter in law cannot claim the in-laws property directly. But in her case, as you said, she is a widow, she has the right to claim her share in the property. Since her husband was a class 1 heir of the father’s property, it gives her the right to claim his part of the share after his death.
I would still recommend you to contact a property lawyer to get better clarity on the matter.
