Hello. I saw you asking whether is particle board good for shelving and I can say it is pretty good, but there are some cons as well. So, you need to consider the cons as well and see if the particle board fits right for your shelving based on your requirements. I am going to share some details about this below.

Pros and Cons of Particle Board for Shelving

Pros

  1. Affordability: One of the reasons why particle board is great for shelving is its cost. It is much cheaper than solid wood or plywood, which makes it an economical option.

  2. Versatility: This is available in several sizes and finishes. Particle board can be used for a variety of shelving projects, from bookcases to pantry shelves.

Cons

  1. Durability and Strength: One downside of particle board is that it is not as strong as ply or solid wood. It has a lower Modulus of Rupture (MOR), meaning it can bend or break under heavy weight.

  2. Moisture Sensitivity: Particle board is very susceptible to moisture. Particle boards can swell, warp and lose their structural integrity when it comes to a damp environment.

I hope you now understand that although particle boards are cost-effective and versatile, they aren’t durable and are sensitive to moisture. So particle board isn’t the best of options for shelving.
