A few years back when I planned to paint my home, I was concerned about the VOC emission. Being a mom of an infant, I was a bit particular in choosing safe paints. I found the option of low VOC but had this question in mind: Is low VOC paint safe? I found that traditional paints emit VOCs, which can have an adverse effect on indoor air quality for years. However, low VOCs paints were developed as a healthier option, as they release less toxic fumes.
Is Zero VOC Paint Safe?
I learned that for better indoor air quality, it is best to choose paints that are certified Zero VOC. Zero VOC paints were developed in India by Nerolac. I also chose Nerolac Impressions Eco Clean water based luxury emulsion for my home. This comes with very low VOC & almost no odour.
Even though low VOC are usually safer than traditional paints, they may still include fungicides or ammonia, and they might still emit trace levels of volatile organic compounds. VOC levels between 0.3 and 0.5 mg/m³ are regarded as safe.
