PAN card stands for Permanent Account Number. It is a 10 digit unique number issued by the Income Tax Department to taxpayers. My daughter got her PAN card early this year and went on to show it to a few people. She had no idea about is it safe to share PAN card number or not, so I advised her to keep such vital details to herself. PAN details can be misused in multiple ways. Scams that can be done using the PAN card number are-
One can avail loan or carry out illicit practises using your PAN card details
In India, PAN details are required if you purchase a huge sum of gold
Hotels or during vehicle booking, PAN card details are at times required so scammers can use your details and book services fraudulently
There can be other scams happening, so do not share your PAN details with anyone at any cost. I hope the concept of whether it is safe to share PAN card number or not and the reasons are clear enough.
