I asked is it better to spray or roll interior paint, to the painter I hired for our house’s wall painting last month. He said spraying paint is quick and may cover rough surfaces that rollers cannot reach. Although paint rollers require less preparation and costs less, they are quite labor-intensive. He also shared the difference between spray and roll interior paint, which I added below.

Is It Better to Spray or Roll Interior Walls?

It depends on the wall conditions. A spray gun's effectiveness and speed make it possible to quickly cover huge areas. However, for painting uneven surfaces, such as textured walls, paint rollers are ideal.

I have shared the spray painting vs. roller painting differences that the professional painter shared with me here.

Spray Painting

Here are the pros and cons of spray painting.

Pros:
  • Quicker and simpler for big regions.

  • Can, with practice, attain a consistent finish.

  • Ideal for uneven surfaces, such as concrete or brick.

  • Enters the wall's difficult-to-reach areas.

  • This painting takes a lot less time than rolling.

Cons:
  • Requires extensive preparation to avoid overspray.

  • The cost of sprayers might be high.

  • For beginners, it is more challenging.

Roller Painting

Here are the pros and cons of roller painting, he informed.

Pros:
  • Reasonably priced.

  • Excellent for beginners, do-it-yourselfers.

  • Not much equipment is needed.

  • Simple cleanup.

  • For difficult-to-reach places, you can use a roller extension.

  • Perfect for projects and smaller areas where a thick, even coat of paint is desired.

Cons:
  • Only for internal usage.

  • It might not apply as uniformly as a sprayer would.

  • Roller painting in cracks doesn't work well.

  • Not best for textured areas like popcorn ceilings.

I hope you this helps you decide between these 2 paintings.
