Do you think, CIF number and customer ID are same? No, Customer ID and CIF (Customer Information File) Number are not always the same, although they are closely related. Both are used to identify customers in banking, but they serve slightly different purposes.

Is Customer ID and CIF Number Same?

Some banks use Customer ID and CIF interchangeably, while others keep them separate. The basic difference between them,

CIF (Customer Information File) number

Customer ID

Unique digital file that contains all relevant banking details of a customer (KYC details, account information, loans, transactions, and other financial data)

It is another unique id number assigned to a bank customer, used for net banking login and account management.

CIF remains the same for a customer even if they hold multiple accounts with the same bank. Usually, the CIF number is 8–11 digits long, depending on the bank. Like CIF, the Customer ID remains the same across multiple accounts in the same bank.
