I have been staying in Bangalore for 3 years as a bachelor with a Rs. 40 k salary and I think it is pretty difficult to sustain here with this. So to answer your query: Is cost of living high in Bangalore? I must say yes! It is high. I can now see why Maggi dinners are romanticised. I mean, the city is fantastic with excellent food, startup excitement, and great weather. But how to manage finance here is a completely different game.
Is Bangalore's Cost of Living High?
Yes! It is high. Let’s break it down:
I stay in a 1 BHK rented apartment in the Koramangala area of Bangalore. I pay Rs. 18000.
To this add Rs. 3,000 for electricity, internet, and other utilities.
Now comes the grocery part, which would cost you around Rs. 5,000. Also, remember, I do not get anything fancy for me like avocado and all.
Next comes the commutation part. Commuting by metro and the occasional cab ranges somewhere around Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000.
Even the "occasional" social life, which usually includes the occasional coffee outings, and weekend biryanis, adds up rapidly. Before I realise it, on the 20th of every month, my salary begins to play hide and seek.
Bengaluru does indeed have a high cost of living, particularly for single working professionals. It is feasible, but there will be compromises.
