To change the name in the property documents, you need to follow a few steps. Firstly, you will need to submit an affidavit mentioning the current name, the new name, current address, and reason for changing. It should be signed by 2 gazetted officers (along with the stamp). Secondly, you need to advertise the change of name in a local leading daily newspaper. The advertisement should contain the old name, new name, date of birth, father’s name or husband’s name, along with the home address. Finally, you need to get a notification published in the Gazette of India for name change by sending a copy of the advertisement and other required documents to the Department of Publication (under the Ministry of Urban Development) in India.
