As far as I know, it is generally required to submit the rent agreement to the housing society if the landlord and tenant live in the same property. Even if all legal formalities, such as stamp paper, rent agreement, and police verification, have already been completed, you must submit a copy to the society. Most societies require agreement only when a new occupant is staying independently or using common amenities.
If your society has no common plots or shared facilities, then I don’t think they can insist on it. If they are asking for it, then it may be to maintain records for security. It is optional in your case unless specifically mentioned in the society’s bylaws.
