Two single-pole switches, each controlling a different load, must be connected to a common hot wire to be wired from a single power source. I heard this from the electrician during the electricity connection work on our new home. I was unaware of how to wire two switches from one power source, so I asked him. Here is what he told me.
How to Wire 2 Switches from One Power Source?
The electrician said it is best to wire two switches from a single power source to control one or more light fixtures from several locations. Here are the steps he shared with me, but don’t try it yourself.
Identify the hot wire from your power supply, which is typically a black wire.
Attach the black wire to one of the switch's terminals.
The neutral wire should now be connected straight to the light fixture.
Attach the ground wire to the switch's ground terminal.
Now, connect the first and second switches with a length of wire.
Connect the earth to the ground terminal and the black wire to one terminal of the second switch, following the same procedure as the first.
Finally, restore power to the circuit at the breaker and test the switches once all connections have been made firmly and insulated with wire nuts.
I would recommend hiring an electrician to do it. I hope you found this helpful.
