I love to snuggle in my quilt after a tiring day. However, it gets quite filthy after a few weeks. Think about all the things that the quilt comes into contact with almost daily: drink spills, body oils, household dust, pet hair, food crumbs, and so on. It makes me freak out about the dirt and germs collected on it. If you are facing the same issue, then let me tell you how to wash quilt at home:
First, sway the quilt gently to remove any loose items or dirt.
For washing purposes, you can keep a smaller quilt in small tubs or sinks. You will have to hand-wash a larger quilt in a large bucket or any other large container.
Fill the sink or bucket with warm water and add a mild shampoo or mild soap. Keep the quilt inside the water and allow it to soak for around 20 minutes at most. If the quilt is very dirty, allow it to soak for a minimum of 30 minutes, adding more warm water after 15 minutes.
After that, rub the quilt using your hands, and be gentle around the stitched surface, as ridges can come loose after many years. This will help remove the stains and dirt from the quilt.
Drain the tub or sink. Now, squeeze the quilt gently to remove the excess water.
After that, add more water to the quilt and rinse well. Again, squeeze the quilt and rinse until the water runs out clear.
Finally, Hang the quilt in a shaded area and allow it to dry. You should use plastic clips to hang your quilt as wooden clips can snag the fabric.
Don’t expose it to direct sunlight as it can fade its colours over time.
