In my home, I recently installed wallpaper. During the installation, I watched how they were doing it, and it looked very interesting. They first hung the wallpaper, measured the corner distance, cut the next piece, and applied the paste step by step. While observing the process, I understood clearly how to end wallpaper on an outside corner properly. I have shared those steps with you below.
How to Wallpaper External Corners?
First, they hung the wallpaper straight on the wall and made sure it lined up properly.
Then they measured the corner and cut the next piece a little wider so it could wrap neatly around.
After applying the paste, place the wallpaper carefully, smoothed it out, and folded the extra bit around the corner.
They trimmed the edges clean and wiped off any paste.
On the next wall, they drew a straight line to guide where the next piece would go.
Before sticking it, add some extra glue to the corner so it would hold better.
Then they placed the next piece slightly away from the first one, adjusted it straight, and made sure the pattern matched nicely.
When it was done, the corner looked smooth and even, just like the wallpaper had wrapped around perfectly. I hope you now have a clear idea of how the wallpaper installation process works.

One of the walls of my bedroom has an outside corner, which is a part of my living room. Now, I was trying to use wallpaper on that but I wasn’t able to figure out how to wallpaper outside corners. I learned that before starting, I need to measure wallpaper carefully to ensure that its edges are straight. After that, I had to cut it precisely to avoid uneven sections.
How to End Wallpaper on An Outside Corner?
Now, following what I mentioned above, you can go ahead with the below steps to learn how to wallpaper the outside corners.
Fold the wallpaper similar to the corner shape to ensure proper alignment. Now, this could be 90 degrees, L-shaped, etc.
Next, apply a little bit of glue to the wallpaper before folding. Don’t add too much glue as it could lead to distortions.
After folding the wallpaper, press it along the edges to secure it in its place.
Don’t be in a hurry or it could lead to disasters. I would suggest doing a few trials before the actual work.
After going through the process, I understood why people hire painters for jobs like these. I don’t have good DIY skills and that’s why my wallpapering wasn’t perfect. If you are someone like me, hire a professional.

Your Feedback Matters! How was this Answer?
I am an interior designer and my work not only entails creating design spaces but also getting into the tricky stuff involving execution. One of my clients needed wallpaper around an outside corner. I helped navigate through that by measuring the distance between the previous edge and the corner. So, I can show you how to wallpaper outside corners. Let me expand the process below.
How to Wallpaper Around External Corners?
Here is how you can wallpaper around external corners:
First, measure the distance between the edge of the last wallpaper piece you placed and the corner.
Add about 3 inches so that it is able to wrap the corner.
Trim the next wallpaper panel according to the measurements you’ve noted.
Now, hang the wallpaper and smooth it onto the wall. Then, wrap the extra 3-inch overlap onto the adjoining wall and smoothen it as well.
Cut off the excess part at the baseboard and ceiling. After this, align the next wallpaper panel and let it overlap the 3-inch extended portion to stop approximately ¼ inch from the corner.
Ensure that the pattern of the wallpaper or its design is in sync with the last panel you installed.
After you hang all the panels of the wallpaper, cut the extra paper at the edges and corners.
This is all from my side. I hope you now know how to end wallpaper on an outside corner.
