Hey Vishnu. I know the method for using epoxy paint on wood and can help you with it. The method is a bit lengthy, but each step serves a purpose, so they are important. The first thing you must do is prepare the wood you wish to paint with epoxy. I will explain what all goes into the preparation of the wooden surface and the rest below.

How to Use Epoxy Paint for Wood Furniture?

  1. First things first, you must prepare the wood. You do so by cleaning it with a soft and dry cloth to wipe away dust and dirt. Follow it up by wiping with a clean and wet cloth. You can make a simple soap solution and dip the cloth in it to wipe the surface. Finish by wiping with another clean and dry cloth.

  2. Next, sand the surface with a fine grit sandpaper to remove loose fibres and sharp corners from the wood.

  3. In case there are knots or cracks in the wood, tape the knot or crack on the underside well with packing tape. Packing tape is easy to remove later on.

  4. Once the wood has been sanded and cleaned, apply a layer of epoxy coating. You should make around 300 grams of epoxy per m2 of wood.

  5. Once you mix the epoxy resin well, apply it thinly with a roller.

  6. Start with the end edges of the wood. Then, roll the entire surface with epoxy. Lastly, do the end edges again and let the epoxy cure for a minimum of 24 hours.

  7. Once the epoxy coating cures, sand the surface again.

  8. Clean the wood once again by applying one more layer of transparent epoxy coating.

  9. Finish the wood by applying polish.

I hope this helps.

Hi, I recently got my wooden table and chairs painted. We opted for epoxy paint to finish the task. So, if you’re looking for an answer to how to use epoxy paint on wood, this is the place to be.

Can you use epoxy paint on wood

Yes, using epoxy paint on wooden surfaces is a common practice. I’ll mention the step-wise process for the same.

  • Preparation

The first thing to do is to clean the wooden surface. For epoxy paints, it is necessary to prepare your surface before starting to paint. This is crucial because the paint won’t stick to the surface otherwise. Hence, this helps in producing a clear coat.

  • Sand the surface

Follow up by sanding the surface. You can use sandpaper for the same. A vacuum cleaner can help you in removing any dust particles. If you’re using teak wood, remember to use acetone and paper towels to get rid of all the oil that exists on the surface.

  • Temperature balance

An important thing to remember would be to keep the surface and your epoxy paint at a similar temperature. 18 degrees Celsius is considered a safe environment for the process. Do not apply cold epoxy over a hot wooden surface. A blunder like this can lead to uneven coating as the bubbles get trapped inside the coating.

  • Apply the paint

Now that everything is ready, start to paint the wood. I would recommend you paint the surface with multiple thin coats. Use a foam roller and apply 2-4 thin coats. Ensure that you let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next one.

I hope you now know the procedure for epoxy resin painting on wood.
