Hi there. The lights we had installed in our kitchen had turned really old. The coverage across the room had been affected, and we could feel the dimming of the lights. Hence, we thought of changing our fluorescent lights. We were able to do so with the help of our neighbour’s advice. So, if you wish to learn how to update recessed fluorescent lighting in kitchen, keep reading.

Process for updating recessed fluorescent lighting in kitchen

In my opinion, the best way to update recessed fluorescent lighting is by replacing it with an LED light or can light, for example. I will demonstrate the process regarding the same through this answer.

  • Begin by switching off the power and removing the cover over the light fixture.

  • After you’ve removed the cover, you can remove the bulbs by gently twisting them. Keep them aside carefully.

  • Next, disconnect the wires in the ballast. Then, proceed to unscrew the ballast and remove it.

  • Once done, you need to unscrew the mounting screws that have kept the whole light fixture in its place.

  • You should be able to take out the light fixture. You will be left with a small box hole with wires coming out of it.

  • You can leave this hole if you want as it is already drywalled.

  • You can now replace kitchen fluorescent light with can lights.

That’s it, your new lights have been installed.

I hope my answer helps you to learn the method of replacing recessed fluorescent lighting in kitchen.
