To know how to test house wiring with multimeter, follow these steps;
To prevent unintentional shocks, switch off the main power source.
Ensure the batteries are charged, check the multimeter for damage, and make sure the probes are undamaged.
Select a range greater than the voltage in your house (230V/120V) and set the multimeter to AC voltage mode.
Place the red probe in the VΩ port and the black probe in the COM port.
Touch the black probe to the neutral wire and the red probe to the live wire after temporarily turning the power back on. A correct configuration will display the anticipated voltage.
Place the red probe on the live wire and the black probe on the earth wire to verify grounding; the readings should match the standard voltage.
There may be a problem with the wiring if readings are zero, erratic, or abnormally low.
Turn off the power once more and turn the dial to either resistance or continuity mode to test continuity.
Prior to restoring full power, always wear insulated gloves, keep the area dry, and double-check connections.
