Here’s how to soundproof a room from outside noise,

  1. Find the Main Noise Entry Points: Stand quietly and identify where sound enters most, windows, doors, walls facing the road, or balcony gaps.

  2. Seal All Gaps First: Use silicone sealant for wall cracks and window edges. Add foam weatherstrips around doors and window frames. Even small gaps leak a lot of sound.

  3. Upgrade Your Curtains: Install heavy blackout curtains or soundproof curtains that touch the floor. Use a double curtain rod for better sound blocking.

  4. Fix the Door: Add a door sweep at the bottom and rubber seals on the sides. If the door is hollow, consider a solid core door for major noise reduction.

  5. Add Window Soundproofing: If you can’t replace windows, apply acrylic sheets or temporary window inserts. For best results, choose double-glazed windows.

  6. Use Soft Furnishings: Place rugs, carpets, fabric sofas, and wall hangings. Soft materials absorb sound and reduce echo.

  7. Add Acoustic Panels or DIY Options: Install acoustic panels on the wall facing outside. For a budget option, use thick foam panels or filled bookshelves.

  8. Create a Buffer Zone: Keep wardrobes, cabinets, or a bookshelf against the noisy wall. This adds mass and blocks sound better.

  9. Consider False Ceiling (If Needed): If noise comes from above, a gypsum false ceiling with insulation can reduce it significantly.

Follow these steps and you’ll notice a clear drop in outside noise.
