Transporting two-wheelers by train isn’t as difficult as it may seem. You just need to be mindful about a few things. I had the same concern when I went mountain biking to Yelahanka Trail in Bangalore. My best friend, who is a traveller and a cyclist, told me how to transport cycle in train. I am sharing the same steps that I followed. 

How to Send Cycle by Train?

There are two options to transport your cycle by train. If you’re travelling by the same train, you can book the cycle as a luggage. If you’re not, you can book your cycle as a parcel. I transported my cycle as a luggage so I am sharing the steps for the same.

1. Make sure your cycle is properly packed before booking. 

2. Reach your station half an hour in advance to your train’s departure time. 

3. You will be given a luggage ticket after paying the charges prescribed. An endorsement will be made on your journey ticket. 

4. The cycle will be loaded on the train and after you reach your destination, show the original ticket and the luggage endorsement for taking delivery. 

5. The ticket needs to be surrendered during delivery. 

If you’re transporting your cycle as a parcel, you need to bring your ID proof to the parcel office and

mention the name of originating and destination stations on a piece of cardboard. The card board should be tied to the bicycle and the writing should be clear.

• Arrive at the train station 3 hours before the train departure. 

• Locate the parcel office in the station.

• Book your cycle on the same train after showing your confirmed ticket.

• The clerk will note your PNR number and provide you with a receipt after booking your cycle.

• Following that, get your cycle loaded on the train. 

• After reaching the destination station, get your cycle removed from the train.

• Now, visit the parcel office in the destination station and show your train ticket, ID card, and receipt to get your cycle released.

And that is how to send bicycle through train. But there are a few tips that you need to keep in mind before booking your train ticket. 

• Choose a train that terminates at your destination station. 

• Declaring the value of the cycle will help with insurance purposes.
